U9 TIER 1 REGISTRATION UPDATE
UPDATE - August 13, 2025 We want to make you aware of some changes that the NOHA has recently implemented leading up to U9 Tier 1 player evaluations. Players will no longer be permitted to move between associations for Tier 1 evaluations.

The NOHA has implemented a freeze period from September 7-21st, where associations will not be permitted to release players should they not secure a spot on a Tier 1 team. Players will automatically be placed on a Tier 2 team, within the association that they were evaluated for Tier 1. Though we had initially indicated that we would provide releases should a player wish to seek other Tier 1 opportunities, the NOHA will not allow us.

Players wishing to be evaluated for U9 Tier 1 with SMHA, and any association, are required to register in Spordle. In accordance with the NOHA/OHF rules, players are only permitted to register for one association. If a player has registered for Tier 2 with an association, and wishes to be evaluated for Tier 1 at a different association, they would need to request a release from the Tier 2 association to be able to register for the Tier 1 evaluations at the other association.

To simplify the process, SMHA will not be requiring U9 players to pay registration fees until after the Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams are formed.

There will be prep-skates and evaluation skates in September, and we will share date, times, arenas and costs at a later date.
